The Coconut Oil Miracle By Bruce Fife, C.N., N.D.

For over 40 years we have been told that saturated fat is bad for us. While it is true that saturated animal fat (a long chain fatty acid) appears to contribute to heart disease. But as Bruce Fife points out, many studies have now shown that saturated plant fat (a medium-chain fatty acid) is actually very good for us.

Coconut oil, long reviled and avoided, actually is an “elixir” for many health problems, such as weight loss, preventing heart disease, cancer and diabetes, strengthening the immune system and beautifying skin and hair.

Ten Essential Herbs by Lalitha Thomas

This is a great reference manual to have in your home! Ms. Thomas has organized this book so that you may easily find the solutions to many common health problems right in your kitchen, using such items as garlic, onion, turmeric, clove, cayenne, ginger and peppermint. A few other items, such as slippery elm, chaparral, and yarrow, can be purchased as liquid extracts or powders at health food stores or ordered on line to fill out your herbal medicine chest.

She writes with a great sense of humor, telling many stories of how these herbs have worked in real life situations. She includes a resource list, buyer’s guide and travel kit guide. She also gives excellent details of how to use the herbs, something that many herbal books fail to do.
